Our Purpose
To be followers of Christ who make followers of Christ who make followers of Christ...
Our Values
Teaching that is relevant, Biblical, and formative:
The explanation and application of the Bible. We believe the explanation of the Bible is the way God changes people into better people. But the key word there is "relevant" - bringing complicated truths and ideas down to a practical, down-to-earth level, understandable to all. The Bible's got a lot of good stuff to say. It's our job to say it so you can understand it.
Worship that is spiritual, ongoing, and transformational:
The celebration of God. Great churches have great music. "Worship" oftentimes refers to the musical life within a church, whether it's with roaring electric guitars, soaring vocals, or a pounding drum beat. We at Rooftop want to focus on celebrating who God is and what he's done for us through great songs. Oftentimes we find that as we're worshipping him together, we experience his love and power in fresh, new ways. Worship shouldn't be bland, it should be exciting.
Evangelism that is caring, clear, and thoughtful:
The sharing of God's love with others. "Evangelism" is not a nice word, anymore. Nasty T.V. evangelists come to mind when you hear that word. But evangelism isn't about stuffing religion down peoples' throats - it's about sharing life-changing ideas with those around us in a sensitive, caring way. And realizing that some people just aren't interested. (Which is fine.) So, basically, we're not going to invade your personal space as we share a Sunday morning with you. We're going to smile and make you feel comfortable
Community that is authentic, accessible, and sharpening:
The unifying of God's family. "What are the people like?" The people you'll meet at Rooftop are real. In other words, we want Rooftop to be a place where you can be yourself - not where you feel like you have to put on some mask and pretend to be someone you're not. 'Cause who wants that? In short, we want our community to be authentic, where people can come, share their problems, share their joys, and not feel pressured to pretend to be Superman or woman. Or Batman, if you like.
Service that is active, humble, and loving:
The practical expression of God's love to a broken world. We really believe churches should be the most dedicated, active organizations in the world, working for change and the betterment of culture and humanity. Jesus came and spent most of his time with the poor and down-and-out. Through service opportunities, we hope to imitate him and commit ourselves to serving the community around us. The community that we're a part of.
Prayer that is continuous, bold, and honest:
The search for God's will. It's the most powerful force in the universe - prayer. It moves mountains, moves hearts, and gets you As on tests. Sometimes. We believe in it's power and believe that God calls us, together, to pray for our world, our lives, and those around us.
These values can be remembered by the pneumonic, "Those Which Every Church Should Practice"
