ACFP Food Drive

2011 is the 14th year that Alan Feinstein has pledged to give $1 Million to hunger fighting agencies across the nation. His pledge is to match a percentage of any food and/or monetary donation given to the organization during the months of March and April 2011. As part of our partnership with Affton Christian Food Pantry, we will be having a canned food item drive over the next three weeks. At this time, the food pantry is particularly low on the following items:

Dry Pasta
Rice
Ramen Noodles

Please bring those items, and any other items you would like to donate to the pantry, and place them in the Food Donation box located underneath the Connections Wall over the next four Sundays (April 3, April 10, April 17 and April 24).

Kingdom House Work Day

Join other Rooftoppers Sunday, December 12, from 1 to 5 pm, as we partner with Kingdom House to set up for their annual Christmas Program, which allows needy St. Louisans to shop for gifts for every child in their family. Spring Green Clean Drive

Help us collect come much needed supplies for the Affton Christian Food Pantry. Between Easter and April 18th, bring laundry detergent (30-40 load bottles), toilet paper, and paper towels and put them in the donations box at the Connections Wall. Camp David Workday

Come help us get Camp David of the Ozarks ready for campers this summer. Rooftop is planning a workday on Saturday, May 15th. The group will meet at Rooftop at 7:00 AM and should be back by 6:30 PM. Camp David of the Ozarks (CDO) is a free summer camp for children of prisoners. These at-risk children and youth are in desperate need of hope. CDO's week-long summer camps are especially designed to meet this need. Through Bible lessons, games and parties, camp grandmas and grandpas, and a counselor that is shared with only one other camper, these children discover they are special, they are significant, and there is hope for tomorrow! Parents, grandparents, and guardians have shared with appreciation the difference one week of camp has made for their kids. CDO offers Junior Camps for children ages 8 to12, and Senior Camps for teens ages 13-16. You can find more information on them at www.campdavidozarks.org.

Kingdom House

Help make this holiday special for the families of Kingdom House in St. Louis. Join us Sunday Dec. 13th when we help transform an empty downtown warehouse into a magical gift shop. Shoe Drive

Do you have a lot of shoes that you don't wear anymore? Would you like to get rid of those shoes while helping people in Kenya? If so, please drop off your shoes in the bin which will be placed in the foyer starting Sun, Nov. 9th and ending Sun, Dec. 14th. The shoes will be donated to the ShoeMan, a local pastor who has a passion for Kenyans & shoes.

Here's how it works: George Hutchings, a former Baptist pastor and Vietnam War veteran from West St. Louis County, collects the donated shoes, which are then sold to Remains Inc., a used clothes processing company in South St. Louis. Remains pays 35 cents per pound of shoes. The money, said Hutchings, will be used to purchase a rig to drill wells in Kenya. In addition, Hutchings said Remains sends the shoes to Third World countries and are sold at a low cost for people who could not otherwise afford a pair of shoes. From: http://www.shoeman.org/

More Than Carpentry Workday

Meet at Rooftop at 8:15 on Apr. 25^th for our first More Than Carpentry Workday. The day will run from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM at their location (1259 Stephen Jones Avenue, 63133). It is possible that some of the work we do will be physical in nature. Please come prepared with closed toed shoes and warm clothes. MTC has work gloves but, if you want, you can bring your own. They have multiple projects going on all the time as they work on their building and continue with ministry everyday. Lunch will be provided. More Than Carpentry is a ministry organization in Wellston that spreads the Gospel by offering resources, opportunities, and most importantly, love to the people in the community. It is a holistic program that exists in order to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of individuals through apprenticeship-training and education in carpentry, which integrates Christian discipleship and life skills. ACFP Inauguration Service

There will be a short ceremony from 2:30 to 3:00 (featuring some ecumenical worship led by the Rooftop Worship Team) and tours of the pantry space will be available. Affton Leaf Rake

Join us on Saturday, November 22, for our rescheduled Leaf Rake in the Affton community (due to the lack of leaves on the ground on the original date of Nov. 1st). Meet at Rooftop at 8:00 AM for coffee, bagels, and directions for the day. Then we'll go out in groups asking people if we could rake their leaves for them. Food Drive

From Sunday, September 28 through Sunday, October 19, we will be collecting canned Chili, Beef Stew and Chicken & Dumplings for the Affton Christian Food Pantry. These particular items are being collected in a competition between Pastor Matt (Chili), AP Jason (Beef Stew) and Mark Kamil (Chicken & Dumplings). The "winner" of this competition, or the one who has the most cans of their item, will get the opportunity to spend a day in the "fantastic outfit" created by the service committee. The day in the "fantastic outfit" will be filmed and shown on Sunday, November 9. Boxes will be available in the living room and under the connections table to drop off your canned food items. Yard Sale

Hey Rooftoppers! Wanna help raise money for Rooftop's missionaries?! The service committee is having another church wide yard sale to do just that. Gather up all of your unwanted stuff and bring it to the church lobby on Friday, October 23rd. The yard sale will be held the following day, Saturday the 24th, from 7:00 AM to noon. We'll also need volunteers to help with sorting, tagging, and arranging the items the night before. All of the left over items will be donated to Goodwill or available for pickup Saturday at 12:00 PM. Affton Christian Food Pantry

Help Rooftop forge a partnership with other area churches and the Affton Christian Food Pantry, located at St. George Catholic Church, 4975 Heege Rd., 63123. We want to provide the Pantry 2-4 volunteers each Saturday, from about 8:30-11:30. Generally the work is either sorting donations or helping the clients "shop" for their allowed provisions. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to show the Affton community that Rooftop is here to serve.

Winter Coat Drive

If you would like to help those in need this winter season, please bring your donation of coats, blankets, etc. to Rooftop November 18th - December 2nd and place them in the designated box to be distributed through the New Life Evangelistic Center.

New Life Evangelistic Center is a homeless shelter in downtown St. Louis whose mission is to provide Christian hospitality and respect for life through services of food, clothing, shelter, education, job training, and physical, mental and spiritual health care to the poor and homeless in our local and global communities. As winter is approaching, NLEC has many people in need of blankets, coats, gloves, hats, socks, and other winter items.

New City Work Day

Do you have a desire to share yourself with the St. Louis community? Come out on July 12^th to assist the various ministries of Restore St. Louis. Typical projects include, but are not limited to:

Working on widow's homes
Rehabing homes with New City Development Corporation
Sorting clothing or pickup/deliver furniture for the Free Store
Helping single moms with moving
Singing and visiting with residents of a city nursing home
Servicing cars as part of the Auto Ministry

The work day starts at 8:00 A.M. on the campus of New City Fellowship (1483 82^nd St, 63132 or 3502 Grace Ave, 63116). Breakfast is served at 8:00 AM, potluck style. Lunch is provided. You can Meet at Rooftop at 7:15 to carpool or New City at 7:45.

Canned Food Drive

We will be collecting canned food from October 21 - November 4 to be donated to New Life Evangelistic Center in downtown St. Louis. Our goal is 1000 pounds of food! We CAN do it!
